A great gaming setup doesn’t have to scream RGB. When your desk shares a room with the rest of your life, a calmer setup looks better and is easier to keep tidy.

Start with the desk

Go deeper rather than wider: a desk at least 30 inches deep lets you push the monitor back to a comfortable distance. A wood or oak-look top instantly makes the setup feel like furniture.

One monitor, mounted

A single large monitor on an arm frees the desk surface and hides the stand. If you want more screen, a 34-inch ultrawide is usually cleaner than two monitors.

Gas-spring monitor arm

Lifts the screen off the desk so the surface stays clear.

Hide every cable

  1. Screw a cable tray under the back edge of the desk.
  2. Put a power strip inside the tray so only one cable runs to the wall.
  3. Use a fabric cable sleeve for that one cable down the desk leg.

Light it warmly

Instead of bright RGB strips, use a monitor light bar and one warm LED strip behind the desk. It reduces eye strain and makes the setup look calm in photos.
